A pressure immobilization bandage often retards the movement of venom into the circulation from the bite site
The limb should be immobilized and the firm pressure of the bandaging restricts much of the poison from reaching the blood stream
Pressure immobilization is used mostly to treat snakebites and other bites and stings from venomous creatures
Patient Care; Pressure Bandage
- Apply a broad, firm bandage over the bite as soon as possible and keep the bitten area still
- The first aid bandage should be as tight as you would apply to a sprained ankle
- Extend the bandages as high as possible
- If possible and appropriate, apply a splint to the limb
- Bind the splint firmly to as much of the limb as possible
